Sara Sidner was reporting live from the scene for host Chris Cuomo’s show on Monday when the man approached her.
“Y’all be twisting up the stories,” he said.
“You want to talk to me?” she asked. The man responded that he did, reaching for her microphone, but when Snider asked for his name, he replied, “My name is my name.”
“Tell me what you think about what’s going on here,” she said.
“What I think about this is all the press and all the extra shit y’all do makes this worse,” he said, adding, “When people want to protest, they shouldn’t do it in front of a f—ing police, courthouse, shit like that. You get what the f— I’m sayin?”
“I want you to be careful,” the reporter said.
“Of what?” he asked.
“Of anything that could hit you,” she replied.
“Do I look like I’m scared?” he asked in response. The man added, “Y’all need to get up out of here with all that twisting up the media shit.”
Protests in the city began on Sunday evening and have continued into Monday following the death of Wright, who was killed in a police-involved shooting during a traffic stop on Sunday.
In video of the incident, an officer yells “taser, taser, taser” before firing a weapon, then says, “I just shot him.”
Potter has been placed on administrative leave and the incident is under investigation.
Wright’s death comes in the middle of the murder trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who is accused of killing George Floyd, another black man, last May.
