Donald Trump Jr. took aim at several political opponents during a fiery speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference Friday night, including Rep. Liz Cheney, President Biden, CNN, and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
“Who would’ve thought that within 33 days, we’d be bombing the Middle East again?” Former President Donald Trump’s oldest son told the crowd in Orlando, Florida. “Speaking of bombing the Middle East, have you seen Liz Cheney’s poll numbers?”
Trump Jr. then got personal and referenced a shooting incident involving Cheney’s father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, years ago.
“Her politics are only slightly less popular than her father is at a quail hunt,” Trump Jr. joked. “Liz Cheney hates Donald Trump and his policies because her family has a long history of friendly fire, but she also hates them because she’s tied to an establishment that has done nothing but failed us time and time again.”
Cheney and the Trump family have been exchanging barbs ever since the Wyoming congresswoman voted to impeach Trump in relation to the Capitol Hill riot on Jan. 6.
Trump Jr. also mocked CNN anchor Brian Stelter’s appearance, comparing him to Hasbro’s Potato Head toy.
“If Hasbro really wanted a gender-neutral Mr. Potato Head so badly, they should just slap a picture of CNN’s Brian Stelter on the cover of their next potato,” Trump Jr. said. “What? They don’t call him Mr. Potato Head for nothing!”
He also mentioned the nursing home scandal and sexual harassment allegations facing New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and praised Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis at the same time.
“Imagine Ron DeSantis did what Cuomo has done over the last couple of years,” Trump Jr. said. “He wouldn’t be getting an Emmy. He’d be in jail. Credible accusations of harassment swept under the rug, verbal harassment swept under the rug, hiding evidence from the DOJ swept under the rug, no problem. Give him an Emmy! Remember Fredo when he was talking about it for months? Where’s Fredo? He’s so quiet these days! Why isn’t Fredo talking about these things right now?”
“Fredo” is a nickname that conservatives, including the former president, have given Cuomo’s brother Chris, who is an anchor on CNN.
Trump will address the CPAC crowd on Sunday, and Trump Jr. promised that the speech would not be a “low energy” affair.
